Why SAGEUK Was Created

Over the years, we witnessed how many individuals struggled with language barriers, isolation, housing difficulties, digital access, mental wellbeing, healthcare systems and communication with public services.
One case that deeply inspired the creation of SAGEUK involved supporting an older individual who developed severe cataracts and gradually lost his eyesight. As his condition worsened, he lost his employment, income and eventually his housing stability.
Support was provided through every stage of his recovery journey, including:
arranging eye test appointments and NHS procedures
translation and interpretation from Romanian to English
communication with healthcare providers and public services
assistance with Universal Credit and housing support
contact with Citizens Advice and Jobcentre services
emotional and moral support during periods of severe distress
help navigating online systems and mobile communication
support finding safe accommodation after experiencing abuse and intimidation within shared housing
The process lasted over 3 years and required continuous guidance, encouragement and practical support. During this difficult period, the individual experienced isolation, fear and hopelessness, and at times was close to suicide.
Today, his situation has significantly improved. He now has stable accommodation, receives the support he is entitled to, attends education consistently, has improved confidence and continues rebuilding his life following multiple eye operations.
This experience showed us how many vulnerable people are silently struggling and how difficult it can be to navigate services alone, especially when language and technology become barriers.
SAGEUK aims to become a compassionate community platform that helps individuals access guidance, support, information and human connection during difficult life transitions.
Through education, awareness, wellbeing support and community cooperation, SAGEUK hopes to assist vulnerable individuals in building safer, healthier and more stable futures.
“Support, awareness and unity can change lives.”
